Adopting a pet is a commitment, one the PawCrowd family takes very seriously. All of our PawCrowd family pets are rescues. We have adopted fuzzy little kittens and playful pups. In many ways, these beautiful creatures rescued us as well: from loneliness, health issues and relieving everyday stress. They are part of our family, and we can’t imagine life without them.

We know from experience that not every pet finds a new home right away, especially a pet that’s a little different. We have a special pup in our family, one that many people passed over in the shelter.

This is Roxie’s story told by her Daddy, Kyle.

"Roxie is a seven-year-old American Bulldog mix and we have been best friends for years. When I first met Roxie, she had just been picked up by Harley’s Haven Rescue. They took her from a shelter in Philadelphia that had found her in the streets with a badly injured back right leg. The Philadelphia shelter could not afford to take care of her leg, so she was going to be euthanized. Fortunately for both of us, Harley’s Haven took her in and was able to successfully amputate her leg and brought her to recuperate at the veterinary hospital where I was working at the time. Roxie was a thin, smelly dog with thirty-plus stitches in her hip, but she was so friendly and we connected instantly.

Although I fell in love with Roxie, I wasn’t in the position to adopt a dog at the time, so I did everything I could for her while she waited for her forever home. My family and I would visit her at the hospital. I gave her extra playtime, treats, and love every day as she adapted to life with three legs. For months, no one expressed any interest in adopting Roxie. Each time I visited her, I started to tell her that one day, she would come home with me.

A few months passed, and a lot of changes happened in my life. One day I walked into the office and told Roxie I was bringing her to her forever home. My home! We were finally together. While others had concerns that adopting a three-legged dog could be a burden, to me, Roxie was absolutely perfect."

PawCrowd is thankful to all pet parents who welcome rescues into their homes. We are also grateful to rescues like Harley’s Haven that did not give up on Roxie when she needed extraordinary care. Because of them, we have a very special addition to our family.

Welcome home, Roxie!
